Lassa fever patient in ekiti dies

According to reports reaching us, the dead lassa patient was an ibo boy who was about to do his west african examination council (WAEC), believed to be 17. 

The hospital was flooded with relatives who are specially igbos and everywhere was scattered with the workers of the hospital. making it the first lassa patient to be confirmed dead in Ekiti.
the patient parents are supposedly living in ijero ekiti in ijero local government of ekiti state where he fell sick and was transfered to Ekiti state university teaching hospital Ado ekiti, (EKSUTH) where he was receiving intensive care and after some test run on the patient, the hospital discovered it was lassa fever and was immediately referred to the federal teaching hospital Ido ekiti. He died today at the hospital isolation room this afternoon and has since been packed to be buried, the hospital ambulance was sent carrying the corpse away to be disposed properly so it wont affect others and believed that the families have been isolated and quarantined so it wont infect others.
Environmental health officers are seen fumigating the path with the corpse was carried.

    • Encephalitis
    • Meningitis
    • Unilateral or bilateral hearing deficit
    • Seizures     
     It is commonly spreads to humans from other animals, specifically a rodent known as a natal multimammate mouse (Mastomys natalensis). This is probably the most common mouse in equatorial Africa, common in human households and eaten as a delicacy in some areas. It is also called the natal multimammate rat or African rat.
